Orbit began with a simple curiosity: What if a table could create a connection, not just to hold objects? Working within a collaborative team, I helped lead the project toward this vision, exploring how structure, assembly, and interaction could become part of an emotional, playful experience rather than a static piece of furniture.
As group leader, I guided the concept direction and kept the team aligned, while also diving deeply into hands-on making, prototyping, and shaping the visual and narrative presentation. My focus was on developing the storyline behind Orbit: why it mattered, how it felt, and how users would experience it. I used auto‑ethnographic reflection, material exploration, and iterative research to build a concept that blended personality with purpose.
The result was a modular side table stored in its own carry case, where the act of building becomes part of the story. Orbit invites users to slow down, touch, assemble, and participate, turning setup into a shared ritual rather than a task.
During user testing, Orbit revealed its personality. People described it as fun, surprising, and even a little puzzling in a way that sparked creativity. They didn’t just use the table; they gathered around it, built it together, and connected through the experience.
